Investments in People and Technology to Stabilize Public Service Pay
Across the country, hard-working employees and their families continue to face difficult and stressful situations because of pay issues.
The Working Group of Ministers on Achieving Steady State for the Pay System today announced a $142-million investment in both people and technology as part of a step-by-step approach to help address the problem.
The government will be hiring additional employees to process pay transactions and implement collective agreements. As well, satellite offices will remain open for the rest of the fiscal year to provide surge capacity and handle specialized cases. Together, these additional resources will accelerate the processing of outstanding transactions so that employee wait times are shortened.
In addition to the investments in capacity, Public Services and Procurement Canada will also implement a new case management tool that will allow compensation advisors to better track pay transactions and respond to employees’ enquiries with current and accurate information. Over time, this will allow the Public Service Pay Centre to better communicate with employees when they want further information on their file.

- Tax support is also available to help employees who have had difficulty with their taxes. Employees may seek up to $200 in reimbursement for tax advisory services in relation to their 2016 or 2017 income taxes. Employees can also submit claims for a range of other out-of-pocket expenses.
